In the center of the village, Casa da Cultura da Comporta, which was once an old barn, a cinema and even a dormitory for rice plantation workers, now houses a local market, dubbed the Summer Market, gathering products from fifteen brands of the Alentejo. The space also houses temporary exhibitions and is available by appointment for private events.<\/p>\n

This coastal region was home to many civilizations due to its favorable position and context. At the northern end of the Troia peninsula, the Romans left their mark on a small settlement, the Roman Ruins of Cetobriga, which can be visited almost every day of the week.<\/p>\n

The Roman ruins have a partnership with the Rice Museum, a tribute to culture and one of the most dominant means of subsistence in the region, rice. Opened in 2011 in the old rice husk factory of Herdade da Comporta, the museum tells the life story of the working class at the factory through videos, photos, texts and machines on permanent display, closing only on Mondays, with an entrance fee of 2 \u20ac per person.<\/p>\n

Surf in Comporta, on Carvalhal beach, is a local surf school where students of all ages and levels are taught.<\/p>\n

The Sado estuary is also one of the most important habitats in the Iberian Peninsula for the bird kingdom, due to its great diversity. Rotas do Sal takes minivan tours throughout the estuary area, with half-day or full-day programs in order to watch the birds at the various observation points.<\/p>\n

Comporta Yoga Shala offers classes in a hut overlooking the rice fields that spread across the plains between Comporta and the nearby beaches. Classes are twice in the morning and only during the summer months.<\/p>\n

The Sado estuary, classified as a Nature Reserve, is the breeding ground for a wide variety of birds and home to many species of fish, there is also a population of resident dolphins. This proximity to wildlife creates the ideal opportunity to get involved in animal watching. Vertigem Azul and Sado Arr\u00e1bida organize boat trips to see the dolphins and to dive in the calm waters of the river.<\/p>\n

This is a good entertainment option for the whole family. The Badoca Safari Park, between Vila Nova de Santo Andr\u00e9 and Santiago do Cac\u00e9m, is a savanna themed place with a considerable variety of animals from the African continent and observable in several ways: through Safari, African Rafting, in which a boat runs through the rapids, and a walk through the Tropical and African Forests; a maze of trees dotted with all kinds of colorful birds.<\/p>\n

The Palaf\u00edtico Port, in the fishing village of Carrasqueira, a few kilometers northeast of Comporta, is the largest of its kind in Europe, stretching for hundreds of meters in the waters of the Sado estuary. Its unique location, combining elements of the Portuguese fishing tradition and the light reflected in the calm river, makes it a very popular place for professional photographic productions. For lovers of this art, the pier offers remarkable memories of the time spent in the Alentejo region.<\/p>\n
